Just got home to a warm Durban after 3 days in PE. Went to train with my doubles partner for this weekends SA double ski champs. My dad wrote an awesome article last year after the Dolphin Coast Challenge last year that really hit home for me. Basically saying what the results for that weekend produced, the doubles teams that knew each other well were first and second. Keeping it in the family Dawid and Jasper Mocke won with the Bartho Brothers second. It shouted, Do your homework when you have to race doubles. Well trying to learn from this and headed to PE to get used to the double.
Had a great time staying on the beach and hanging out with mate Matt and got in a day in Jeffrey’s Bay watching the Billabong Pro which is South Africa’s stop on the WCT dream tour. Growing up as a surfing kid I used to idolise the best surfers in the world so getting to watch some of my childhood hero’s and the best up and coming surfers in the world was off the top shelf. Big names like 8 time world champ Kelly Slater, current world champ Mick Fanning and whiz kid from my home town Jordy Smith ripped up supertupe with turns throwing spray 2 stories high. What a sight, very inspiring seeing people take something to the extreme, making something into an art form. I hope to do something extraordinary in my surfski one day!
The last 10 days training have been is some seriously cold weather, so glad to be back in Durban where we don’t have much winter. Make me appreciate home and my warm water!
