Le Troquet - Pure Decadence!
2008-09-06 15:27:11 by Barry Lewin

New friends Kymmie and Bianca who have been staying at the digs the last week or so with house mate Hev unfortunately had to say goodbye to Peace Cottage on Friday. Hev wanted to celebrate their time with us and show off her parent’s restaurant that we have heard tons about.

Hev’s parents have been to the digs on a number of occasions and I was dying to check out the hype. Gilbert and Annick Bordier have run their restaurant, LE TROQUET in its current location at the Village Market in Westville for the last 4 years and before that for the last 25years in the Westville neighbourhood. They tell me their secret is retaining the same chef for the all 25 years, locking him up and not letting him out to sea the sun. Well it works!

The very French vibe is amazing with cartoons on the walls in black and white. Gilbert will come to each table to tell you the specials himself and offer the days joke for good measure. So much character and personality. Like you were welcomed into their family culture.

Gilbert straight out told us ‘the fish is no good tonight, we are eating red this evening’ being honest and offering us only the best on offer. I can see this policy of quality shine through in the food. A phenomenal experience! I can honestly say the best meal I have had in as long as I can remember.

I had the Snails and Mushroom starter, the Peppered Fillet, the Strawberry and white Chocolate Moose. Wow, no meal is ever going to be the same after that.

I have to admit the company wasn’t bad, hehe, was great to spend some time with me new overseas friends before they left. My chilled housemates, such cool people, Hev, Wogs and Andy. Shot!

I can certain insist you get a booking at Le Troquet ASAP, get hold of them on 031 266 5388
