Hit a massive training session this morning. Was great to get the weekend off racing but with the Fenn Cape Point Challenge looming had to go long. Too little too late I suspect but for the mind it needed to be done.

I am seriously under done for Cape Point and I know it. The training for Dubai was short and sharp which are words that South Western Reefs don’t care much about. The body will not be ready but the only way I figure I am going to get through to Fish Hoek next Saturday is with the 6 inches between my ears. Need to get my head around paddling that far and in some really harsh conditions.
Picked a hard course of some cross wind, flat and little runs in a paddle from Peace Cottage to Toti some 48km, smashes as much sun screen on as possible (the Durban heat at the moment is unrelenting) and made sure the juice was cold. Head was strong the whole way and surprisingly the body not bad ether. I soul searching paddle crossing the Durban bay some 3km off shore on my own, great time to think and digest a flippen amazing year. Hope to blog on some memories soon.
Loved the silence and utter solitude of the paddle and hope to do some more of these over the Xmas period. Maybe I will find some enlightenment towards what racing I would like to do next year, the sport is blowing up all over the world and to many to choose from. Must pick wisely (with the brain or with the heart, time will tell). |
