If you have been following my twitter feed you will have noticed I have been sneaking in some surfing sessions in between my paddling training. There is a purpose for this. It may not be performance based but one of balance.
I set a number of goals at the beginning of the year which included getting into some event management, charity work with C2C4C and achieving an element of personal balance between work, racing and play.
The year to date has gone really well with the eventing and charity but that elusive balance I was aiming for has fallen by the way side.
I little wake up talking to a sporting friend about his recent troubles made me realise I needed to get back to my goals and focus on what I wanted to achieve. It’s been 3 weeks since my refocus and the progression in mindset is amazing. I feel alive and motivated.
The formula is simple, take every opportunity to play. For me this manifests in anything from reading a book to surfing. Reading some inspiring stories has upped my motivation and mood and the surfing is m escape (me time with no competition).
Let’s hope the mindset of the last 3 weeks continues as a happy racer normally does better than a grumpy one.
I kindly got a mail this morning from a good friend Wayne Ashford who was taking pictures on one the Durban piers yesterday. He sent me some and here they are. Been loving surfing different boards, this is a 9 foot 1 Bilt (a birthday present to myself). Thanks to Wayne for the photos.
