Mtwalume Surf and Golf Sunday
2008-04-14 08:50:36 by Barry Lewin
At the end on an intense week I like to kick back and recover with a day off out of the paddling environment. This last week has gone great, I have got through some awesome training including a Salt Rock to Marine paddle of 46km. These sessions have a massive effect on my motivation and mindset at times. Not great to admit but the harder I train the crankier I get.

Well after a massive session on Friday and coaching at surfskischool the last thing I wanted to do was talk more about training. Sunday would be a day off!!!!! Wahoo!!!

I got an invite from my best mate Rus to a day down the coast at his parent’s house at Mtwalume. I have a soft spot for the south coast and that was exactly what I needed.

This day would be a little different than expected though. On Saturday evening I got a schedule for the next day, 730am meet at the house, 8-10am surf on the point, 11am golf at Umdoni (bring money for bets), was the message on my phone. Sounds like a jol. Rus had invited a ton of his school mates down for the day to take over the south coast and have a catch up session. Well 8 heavy heads arrive from Durban for the surf session and had a ball in the small 2 foot waves.

Russ’s legendary mom Liz fed us all and shipped us off to the golf course where we were joined by another 6 players for the round. A total of 14 doods arrived for the golf. When was the last time you heard of 14 school buddies getting together to catch up? I am flippen impressed. The weather was perfect with a light SW to cool us down and help the ball up some of the massive hills at Umdoni, thank goodness I had a cart.

We even had a hole in one in one of the four balls, Mike had his second hole in one in his life. Congrats dood! No one left in a hurry, all telling war stories of yesteryear!

The perfect day away from the training and work, good mates and great times!
