With the national K4 champs back in its rightful place at Shongeni Dam we scrambled a team together to take part of one of my favourite races of the year.

I convinced Brandon Van Der Walt, Warren Valentine and Mark Mulder to jump in a boat with me for the race. We had 2 great days on the water picking up a nice win. There certainly wasn’t the competition of years gone by with a number of paddlers away doing international racing as well as the moving of the event has stunted some of its momentum.

Well done to Umzinyti canoe club for getting the champs back and putting on a good show ensuring K4 racing lives on. Special mention to the young Varsity College crew who came 3^rd and 1^st u23 in the event showing how much the paddling is growing on their campuses. Well done.
